There aren't any big surprises among this year's Directors Guild of America nominees. The organization has announced those it deems the best directors of the year in what will likely be a good indicator of what, or who, we'll see at the Academy Awards.

Up for the DGA honor are Ben Affleck for Argo, Kathryn Bigelow for Zero Dark Thirty, Tom Hooper for Les Miserables, Ang Lee for Life of Pi and Steven Spielberg for Lincoln. Of the nominees, Affleck is the only person who hasn't been up for the award before. Spielberg has been nominated 11 times and won three, while Lee won two of his three nominations. Bigelow won in 2009 for The Hurt Locker, and Hooper won in 2010 for The King's Speech.

It's a bit disappointing that directors Quentin Tarantino, David O. Russell, Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson didn't get recognition for their contributions to film last year. Like we said, the five directors who got nominated are deserving but predictable, while these other four would have been snubbed repeatedly. It wouldn't be surprising if they didn't get recognized at the Oscars too, though Tarantino might be able to sneak his way in.

The DGAs winner will be announced Feb. 2. Oscar nominees are being revealed Jan. 10.
