A bidding war has blown up over the rights to a "Monsterpocalypse" film adaptation, based on the hit monsters vs. robots board game from Privateer Press.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros., DreamWorks, Sony, and possibly a fourth studio, are bidding for the "Monsterpocalypse" film, which would be directed by the 2013 "Evil Dead" remake's Fede Alvarez, from a script by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues. THR notes that "a deal could happen as early as the end of the week."

Prior to Alvarez's take, Tim Burton was developing a "Monsterpocalypse" adaptation around 2010, which stalled in development after 2013's "Pacific Rim" was released, as the film carried a similar concept.

"Monsterpocalypse" hasn't been given a release date.
