The official trailer for Ben Affleck's Prohibition-inspired gangster flick "Live By Night" is here, and it finds the actor/director getting into some pretty tense situations.

The trailer starts with Affleck's character, Joe Coughlin, staring intently into the rearview mirror of his car. He's the getaway driver for a robbery, and he's clearly got some heavy thoughts on his mind. His accomplices exit the building, bags of cash and weapons in hand. They enter the car, and Coughlin floors it. A police officer pursues on foot, and fires at their vehicle as they attempt to escape. They return fire, and the screen cuts to black.

As the trailer continues, we learn Coughlin wasn't always an outlaw, but events in his life, like his military service, changed his outlook. We hear Coughlin express a desire to leave the gangster lifestyle behind, but it seems he may be in for a fight if he wants to find peace. The trailer is interspersed with car chases, gun battles, explosions, fisticuffs, and some intimate moments with fellow cast members Zoe Saldana and Sienna Miller.

The film's official description promises the movie will have its share of both action and drama.

"'Live By Night' is set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld."

"Live By Night" is set for release on January 13, 2017. The film is directed by Ben Affleck and will also star Elle Fanning, Chris Messina, Titus Welliver, and Brendan Gleeson.
