The Doctor is no stranger to traveling through time to experience historical events firsthand, but he's rarely the subject of such explorations. That will no longer be the case after An Adventure in Space and Time, a TV movie airing the day before the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor and offers an account of the show's early days. The film, which features David Bradley as William Hartnell, comes from former Doctor Who writer and Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss. Here's the first trailer for the special, which premieres Nov. 22.

The next day will see The Day of the Doctor, which broadcasts simultaneously around the world. To get fans into the spirit of the special the BBC released a mini-episode called "The Night of the Doctor," which you can watch below.
