"The War of Jokes and Riddles" is coming to the pages of DC Comics' "Batman," and the flashback epic from writer Tom King and artist Mikel Janin promises to give readers a new outlook on a pair of the Dark Knight's classic villains. The Riddler and Joker take center stage in the storyline set in Gotham City's past; one year after the Batman's career began, to be more precise.RELATED: Tom King Teases Next Batman Arc: The War of Jokes and RiddlesToday, King shared a new look inside the storylines' covers, revealing a look for the Joker that's a bit different from the classic look fans have come to know over the decades. Janin's take on the bad guy is a bit different from recent incarnations, with a less angular face and less prominent grin. In fact, the Joker's smile disappeared completely at several points, as he seems to be anything but amused by the Riddler's scheme to kill him.

A previous look at the event showcased even more villains who will join in the war for Gotham, including Killer Croc, the Ventriloquist, Two-Face, Penguin, Man-Bat, Scarecrow, Mister Freeze, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter and Scarecrow.

The eight-issue “The War of Jokes and Riddles,” by Tom King, Mikel Janin and June Chung, kicks off in “Batman” #25.
