The premiere of Warner Brothers/DC Entertainment’s throwback Batman animated film, “Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders,” is tomorrow. While only audiences at New York Comic-Con will get to see this initial screening, DC’s released a short clip to whet the appetites of fans patiently waiting for the theatrical and home video release.
The clip starts about 3:30 seconds into the video, after the DC All Access hosts, Jason Inman and Tiffany Smith, cover some pressing DC comics and TV news. It begins with what appears to be a variety show, being held at Gotham Palace. A band begins to perform, but it’s immediately apparent that something is amiss.
They remove their disguises to reveal the Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, and Joker. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are watching the show at Wayne Manor, and take notice, with the kind of campy flair that could only come from the 1960s iterations of their characters. “Those aren’t the Ho-Daddies,” Dick exclaims. “No,” Bruce states, “it’s that mocking mountebank of malice, the Joker.”
The Joker and his crew gloat and threaten the studio audience, while Dick and Bruce conveniently provide alliterative descriptions for each. It looks like The Caped Crusader and The Boy Wonder will have to suit up to deal with this “unholy alliance” of reprehensible rogues.
Following the NYCC debut, “Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders” will see a select cinema release on Oct. 10, a digital home video release Oct. 11, and a DVD/Blue-ray release Nov. 1.
“Return of the Caped Crusaders” features voice work from Adam West (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Burt Ward (Dick Grayson/Robin), Julie Newmar (Catwoman), Wally Wingert (Riddler), William Salyers (Penguin), and Jeff Bergman (Joker), among others.
