Concept artist Jerad Marantz has released early designs for the Dark Knight’s mechanized armor from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The Los Angeles-based artist worked with the film’s costume designer Michael Wilkinson on these initial sketches of the bulky armor Batman dons to fight Superman after he has weakened the Man of Steel by exposing him to kryptonite.
The three renderings comprise two full body shots, as well as a detailed view of the costume’s arms, including its bulky shoulder pads and massive gauntlets. These images of are fairly close to the final on-screen version. The most notable differences in the drawings are the pointier ears on Batman’s helmet and the sharper blades on his gloves. Also absent is the ammo belt he has slung over his shoulder in the movie.
Marantz is no stranger to comic book movies. On top of working with Wilkinson on the armor and the main Batsuit used in “Batman v Superman,” he’s also supplied concept art for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ and the upcoming “Doctor Strange,” “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” He was also the lead character designer on the 2010 “Clash of the Titans” reboot, and Zack Snyder’s 2011 outing, “Sucker Punch.”
