As of last month, "Magic Mike XXL" star Joe Manganiello will officially play Deathstroke in Warner Bros.' upcoming "Batman" film, and he's already hitting the books to research his character. On his Twitter, the actor shared two photos detailing his research for the part of DC's legendary assassin/mercenary.

Tagged as "#research" and "#research2," the two photos feature multiple Deathstroke toys, comics and graphic novels, up to and including the recent "Deathstroke: Rebirth" #1. The range of material on display may offer a little clue as to which storylines -- if any -- will be the key influence on Manganiello's approach to the character. However, he probably won't base his performance on the LEGO Deathstroke minifig visible in one of the shots.

Manganiello himself is no stranger to superhero movies; before donning Deathstroke's iconic mask, he also appeared as Peter Parker's friend and rival Flash Thompson in the Sam Raimi-directed "Spider-Man" films.

Meanwhile, Deathstroke and Slade Wilson have made recent appearances on the small screen on The CW's "Arrow."

Though the film doesn't have a scheduled release date or title yet, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes has hinted that the solo "Batman" film -- which stars Ben Affleck in the title role -- could be out within a year and a half.
