While the other major superhero publisher in the comic book space may be waiting for their signature character to swing on Broadway, DC Entertainment officially announced their first foray into live action entertainment with word on a “Batman Live” tour.
Caught early by The Hollywood Reporter, the arena-based multi-media show (which already has its own website up and running) is a joint production of DC and Water Lane Productions Ltd. – the UK-based company behind the animatronic arena show “Walking With Dinosaurs.” “Batman Live” will debut in Manchester, England on July 20, 2011 followed by a string of UK dates before coming to America in the summer of 2012.
“With the touring ‘Batman Live’ show, we’re bringing Batman’s adventures to live audiences for the very first time,” DC CCO Geoff Johns said in a press release promoting a November 12 ticket release for the UK tour. “The idea that we’re doing it with a production team this talented and with this much passion is thrilling.”
The release promises a new storyline written for the stage focusin on Batman and Robin as well as appearances by Alfred, the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman and the Penguin. The show should be a mix of live actors, stunt performances, pyrotechnics, video elements and other arena spectacles.
UK-based fans can begin buying tickets this week at BatmanLive.com. More information on the announcement can be found at The Hollywood Reporter. Stay tuned to CBR for more on “Batman Live” as it becomes available.
