Over the past 58 years, we’ve seen a lot of different takes on Batman villain Mr. Freeze, from his comic-book debut as Mr. Zero to his live-action portrayals by the likes of Otto Preminger, Eli Wallach and Arnold Schwarzenegger to his depiction on the beloved “Batman: The Animated Series.” However, we’ve never experienced Dr. Victor Fries quite like this.
It’s the third action figure in the DC Comics Play Arts Variant Batman: Rogue’s Gallery series from Square Enix, which has already brought us reimagined versions of The Joker and Two-Face. Although Mr. Freeze doesn’t reach the heights of creepiness of those releases — and, frankly, how could he? — this figure is undeniably unique. And weird … definitely weird.
Combining the best of the Dark Knight with the worst of Mr. Freeze, the 10-inch, fully posable figure is icy and sinister, with a cold suit, blue cryo tubes, Freeze Gun, Batarang, interchangeable hands, and a display stand. Note the details like the ice creeping across his chest emblem, and a cape that appears to be frozen into position.
DC Comics Play Arts Variant Batman: Rogue’s Gallery — Mr. Freeze will be available for preorder soon. The Two-Face and Joker figures were priced at $200, so you can expect to pay about that much for this one.
