In a new story expansion for "Batman: Arkham Knight" titled "Batgirl: A Matter of Family," Barbara Gordon -- who has appeared as Oracle in Rocksteady's Batman games -- will flash back to a time when she was Batgirl, before the events of "Batman: Arkham Asylum." With her own combat style and hacking skills, she will attempt to locate her kidnapped father, Commissioner Jim Gordon, in a nautical theme park controlled by the Joker.

"Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters," design producer Justin Vazquez told Entertainment Weekly. "It's a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine. Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off." In-game, Barbara will use her hacking skills to take down enemies, control objects and solve puzzles.

In the expansion, Batgirl will team up with Robin in order to infiltrate Seagate Amusement Park, a theme park built on top of an oil rig, which the Joker turned into massive death trap. Together, the two will not only face the Joker's army but the man himself, as they tag-team a fight against the Joker and Harley Quinn using "Arkham Knight's" Dual Play system that allows the player to switch between characters. "Seeing these four iconic characters together at the same time will be a real thrill," Vazquez shared, adding that Harley will don her black and red ensemble from "Batman: The Animated Series" in the DLC.

Batgirl's quest will likewise come packed with side quests, collectibles left behind by the Joker and DC Universe Easter eggs.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. "Batgirl: A Matter of Family" will be available on July 14 for Arkham Knight DLC season-pass holders and separately on July 21 for $6.99.
