Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld is in negotiations to helm Lore, the Warner Bros. adaptation of 2003 comic book miniseries by Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise, Heat Vision reports. Dwayne Johnson boarded the film in April, igniting a bidding war that also involved Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures.
Released by IDW Publishing, Lore focuses on a reluctant hero who is drawn into a secret society dedicated to protecting the world from the monsters of legend. Circle of Confusion and Warner Bros.-based Mad Chance acquired the rights to the property in 2010 with hopes of launching an action-adventure franchise in the tradition of Men in Black, so perhaps Sonnenfeld’s involvement was preordained.
Cory Goodman (Priest) and Jeremy Lott are writing the screenplay, with Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar producing alongside Circle of Confusion’s David alpert and Rick Jacobs. Wood, Miri Yoon and IDW’s Ted Adams are executive producers.
