We still don’t know who will direct Ghostbusters 3, or who will star in the film — but we now know of at least one character who’s in the mix.
Speaking with Vanity Fair for the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters, actress Sigourney Weaver opened up about a relatively recent conversation with Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters movies and will produce the third. Weaver, who played cellist-turned-painter Dana Barrett, had only one request for the new Ghostbusters movie.
“I said, I have one condition, [I] want my son Oscar [from Ghostbusters II] to be a Ghostbuster,” she said, “and he said, ‘We’ve already done that.'”
In Ghostbusters II, Dana’s infant son Oscar is the object of Vigo the Carpathian’s desire, a 16th-century magician who wants to transport his spirit out of a painting and into the child’s body and thereby rule the world. Peter Venkman and the gang stop Vigo before it’s too late, but by that time, Oscar has suffered more than his fair share of traumatic paranormal encounters. He should be right at home with a proton pack on his back.
Perhaps twins Will and Hank Deutschendorf would be willing to reprise their shared role as Oscar. The brothers are professional martial artists these days. You can karate-chop ghosts into submission, right?
