Wrapping the work week, "Suicide Squad" writer and director David Ayer took to Twitter Friday night to reveal the clearest look yet at Oscar-winner Jared Leto as a heavily tattooed Joker in Warner Bros.' upcoming DC Comics-based film.

Ayer's accompanying text referenced the 75th anniversary of the character, created by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger and Bob Kane and first introduced in April 1940's "Batman" #1: "The Suicide Squad wishes you a Happy Anniversary Mr. J! #Joker75 #SuicideSquad @WarnerBrosEnt @DCComics"

Prior glimpses at Leto in character as the Joker had been limited to quick teases, with this being the first full, official reveal -- and the first time observers have seen the character's multiple tattoos, a significant departure from past incarnations of the iconic Batman villain.

Featuring Leto's first turn as the Joker in an ensemble cast also including Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, "Suicide Squad" is expected for release on Aug. 5, 2016.
