Avengers: Endgame broke box office records this year, and Disney is now pushing the film for multiple Academy Award considerations. Notably absent, though, is a push from Disney to nominate Robert Downey Jr. as Best Actor for his role as Tony Stark. Many believe Downey's final appearance in the role was worthy of Oscar consideration -- including the film's directors.

Disney's For Your Consideration website offered suggestions for multiple Oscar categories, including Best Picture, Best Director for Anthony and Joe Russo and Best Adapted Screenplay for writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Considerations were also submitted for Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score.

Downey helped launch Marvel Studios' cinematic universe in 2008's Iron Man, and has been one of the MCU's focal characters ever since. The actor was a key part of the first true integration of the MCU's characters in 2012's The Avengers, and also helped integrate Spider-Man into the MCU starting with a major role in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. In Avengers: Endgame, Downey's character said farewell to the MCU after heroically sacrificing himself saving the universe from Thanos.
