Though the future holds the answers as to whether or not four sequels to James Cameron's 2009 CGI-fueled action fantasy film Avatar are a proportionate response to the success of the first film, at least the pending sequels will have consistency in their cast. According to Deadline, Matt Gerald will reprise his role as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet in all four films.

His presence rounds out the return of other original cast members that thus far include Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Joel David Moore and CCH Pounder. Newcomers already announced for the next four films are Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead) and Oona Chaplin (Quantum of Solace).

Gerald's character, Lyle Wainfleet, was among the bullish SecOps military men in Avatar who showed no sympathy for the Na'vi, the alien species indigenous to Pandora. The original film is still considered to be the highest-earning film globally in box office ticket sales. The sequels were delayed in production but Avatar 2 is slated to start shooting this fall and aims for a December 18, 2020 release. Each of the three other sequels are intended to release each subsequent Christmas in 2021, 2024, and 2025.
