Veteran actors Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson will star opposite Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in “Assassin’s Creed,” the live-action adaptation of the hit Ubisoft video game franchise.
Directed by Justin Kurzel (“Snowtown,” “Macbeth”), the film introduces Fassbender as Callum Lynch, who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, experiences the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th-century Spain. Discovering that he’s descended from a mysterious secret society called the Assassins, Lynch amasses the knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive Templar organization in the present.
According to Deadline, Irons will play Cotillard’s father, while Gleeson will portray Fassbender’s father. No additional details are provided about their roles.
Arriving Dec. 21, 2016, from New Regency and Fox, “Assassin’s Creed” also stars Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed.
