New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have high hopes for Assassin's Creed. The wildly popular video game franchise, which has earned Ubisoft barrels of money, is currently mined for a big-screen adaptation -- and now it has a release date: Memorial Day Weekend 2015, according to Collider.

Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Prometheus) is not only set to produce the film, but also star. While not much is known about the plot, playwright Michael Lesslie is working on the script.

The games follow modern-day bartender Desmond Miles, who discovers his family line is packed with assassins by way of living through them in the past.
