Starz's "Ash vs. Evil Dead" features some pretty glorious special effects, with gruesome Deadite and demon kills filling every episode. All of that spouting blood doesn't come easy, as evidenced by a new behind-the-scenes video that shows everything that goes into creating and killing a Deadite.

According to the cast, there are various ways to dispose of the evil creatures: shooting, stabbing or, of course, chainsawing. Star Bruce Campbell (Ash) says that an ax will also work, but it's a lot of effort: "It's for a younger actor."

The series' special effects team says the demon spawn, introduced late in the first season, are the most labor-intensive creatures to create. The actors playing them have to get in full-body make-up to make them as creepy and realistic as possible.

Of course, in fighting these demons, the show's actors end up getting a little bloody themselves, and the veteran special effects team has a lot of ways to get the actors covered in goo. Blood-delivering devices range from a brush to a manual crank to a cannon.

"I swear one of the things they use is a snow blower," said Dana DeLorenzo, who plays Kelly.

However, the cast and crew say they're willing to put in the work required to make the grisly series a reality.

"That’s the beauty of 'The Evil Dead,'" Campbell said. "Carnage, mayhem and a couple of one-liners."

The second season of "Ash vs. Evil Dead" premieres Sunday on Starz.
