"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins tonight, but the Arrowverse is already thinking about their next crossover event.

Speaking to IGN, "Crisis" showrunner Marc Guggenheim said that he and his team plan of taking a few steps back and going small for next year's crossover.

"Last year we sort of took a step back and... took a breath and then took the giant bite out of the cake. [Next year] we're going to take a step back again. We're going to take several."

This approach is not new for Arrowverse crossovers. Last year, the series' crossed over for "Elseworlds," which was only three episodes and much smaller in scale compared to 2017's four-episode "Crisis on Earth-X" crossover. "Crisis on Infinite Earths" will surpass "Earth-X," taking place over the course of five episodes and including characters from shows that have never been involved before, including Black Lightning and Smallville.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will conclude on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Arrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
