Arrow Renewed For Season 2

The CW has announced early renewals for the breakout superhero drama Arrow, the top-rated Vampire Diaries and the network’s longest-running series Supernatural.

A second season for Arrow seemed almost preordained. Based on the DC Comics’ Green Arrow, the series bowed in October as the network’s highest-rated premiere since 2009 and continues as The CW’s most-watched show. With the promised additions of James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as The Dodger, Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) as Dinah Lance and Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf) as Roy Harper, that popularity isn’t likely to wane any time soon.

The Vampire Diaries, which is the network’s highest-rated series in the target demographics, will enter its fifth season in the fall. And Supernatural, perennial nail-biter for renewal, heads into its ninth season. It’s the sole remaining holdover from The CW’s predecessor The WB.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan-favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”
