Arrow: Prometheus Kills [SPOILER] in a Shocking Move

"Arrow" season 5 will begin to shift in the wake of this character's surprising death.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for “Human Target,” the latest episode of “Arrow.”

Tonight on "Human Target," Tobias Church put his plan to kill the Green Arrow into motion. At first he thought he could torture the Green Arrow's location out of Wild Dog/Rene. When he learned that the Arrow was actually Mayor Queen, he hired a masked assassin the kill him. Prometheus warned Church twice not to touch the Arrow, but Church attempted to kill Mayor Queen anyway. Church was thwarted in his attempt when Christopher Chance, AKA the Human Target, assumed the identity of Mayor Queen and helped fake his death.

With Mayor Queen apparently dead, Church was able to move forward with his plans to consolidate all the drug trafficking through Star City. What he didn't anticipate was Oliver's fake out and team ambush, which landed Church in police custody. Remembering Prometheus' warning to him, Church was terrified that the hooded killer would find him during his police transfer. When Prometheus did find Church, Church attempted to bargain with the truth that the Green Arrow was really Mayor Queen. This truth didn't seem to concern Prometheus, who proceeded to kill Church anyway.

Church has been a formidable threat against the Star City Police Department and the Green Arrow's team all season long. He got the upper hand a number of times throughout the first five episodes of the season by raiding weapons lockers, killing the heads of rival gangs, even torturing Rene for information. His death comes as quite a surprise considering we're only a few episodes into the season. His death must signal the impending rise of Prometheus as "Arrow's" new big bad. While no clues have been revealed about his true identity, he will likely be a character we've seen on "Arrow" before. Typically when characters wear masks on "The Flash" and "Arrow" it means the actor is someone we know.

Next week's episode, titled "So It Begins," will wade into Prometheus' plan to discredit the Green Arrow. Prometheus will begin a wave of terror that will leave Star City thinking the Green Arrow has gone on a killing spree. Starring Stephen Amell as the Emerald Archer, “Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, John Barrowman, Willa Holland and more.
