After a summer of promotion, fans of DC Comics’ Green Arrow AKA Oliver Queen finally got their chance to watch the premiere of The CW’s “Arrow” starring Stephen Amell this week. As CBR News previously reported, a trailer for the series featured a brief glimpse of an arrow shot through the familiar mask of master assassin Deathstroke. Now IGN has premiered the first look at Deathstroke, who will indeed appear on “Arrow” this November in the series’ fifth episode.
Similar to DC Comics’ previous television adaptation on the CW, “Smallville,” featuring an alternate take on Green Arrow played by Justin Hartley, it also featured Deathstroke’s alter ego, Slade Wilson, played by “Battlestar Galactica’s” Michael Hogan. “Smallville’s” version of Wilson never donned the familiar costume, but was missing an eye like his comic book counterpart — and presumably “Arrow’s” version as well.
As seen in the image above, “Arrow’s” iteration of Deathstroke, played by Jeffrey Robinson, hews very close to his comic book roots — at least as far as his costume is concerned. What does Deathstroke’s arrival mean for Oliver Queen and his hometown of Starling City? Time will tell, but the episode’s title, “Damaged,” provides an ominous hint at the future.
“Arrow” stars Stephen Amell (“Hung”) and centers on wealthy young bad boy Oliver Queen, who after being marooned on a remote island for five years returns to Starling City with a mastery of the bow and a determination to make a difference.
“Arrow” represented the network’s highest-rated premiere since the hit supernatural drama “The Vampire Diaries” debuted to an audience of 4.91 million in September 2009. It also tied NBC’s competing Wednesday comedies “Animal Practice” and “Guys With Kids” in overall viewers and in the 18-49 demographics, scoring a 1.3 rating/4 share.
