‘Ant-Man’ Star Michael Douglas Confirms Comic-Con Appearance

If you’re attending Comic-Con International, keep your eyes peeled for a certain size-changing hero.

Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man, has confirmed he’ll be in San Diego later this month for the convention, alongside his young son. Speaking with Collider, he revealed he’ll be at the show for one night only, as part of Marvel’s July 26 presentation in Hall H.

As enthusiastic as he seems about attending Comic-Con, the veteran actor sounds equally bummed out when it comes to the subject of Edgar Wright’s split from Marvel. The director abruptly left Ant-Man, a project he’s been developing since at least 2006, in May, citing creative differences with the studio.

Elaborating on his earlier comments, Douglas told Collider, “It was very disappointing. It was a big disappointment and more so for him because he had a lot of years invested and he was really the one initially who got them to even consider it, you know, the screenplay that he wrote.  I’m not the producer on it and I’m an actor for hire, and, you know, Marvel certainly has a pretty amazing track record, rightly or wrongly, so I think it just was that kind of combination where although they like the idea of the individual and somebody with Edgar’s individual spirit and everything, maybe just collided with an operation – I think they’re all on relatively decent terms.”

With director Peyton Reed now at the helm, Ant-Man is expected to begin filming in August in Atlanta. The film, which stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, opens July 17, 2015.
