With an opening weekend of $43.5M in China and a 3-day weekend haul of $43.3M in the Middle Kingdom, Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man" rose to take the number one position at the international box office.

According to Deadline, the superhero flick now owns the second biggest Marvel/Disney opening in China, after "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

The movie has been a bit of a surprise hit for Marvel Studios, with a domestic box office that has placed it in the Top Ten of Marvel's films, surpassing "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Incredible Hulk." And, with one of Marvel's smallest budgets to date, it's one of the Studios' most profitable.

"Ant-Man's" box office staying power comes a few weeks after "Batman v Superman" director Zack Snyder publicly poked at the film, calling it a "flavor of the week." Since then, Marvel has announced a sequel, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," to be released July 6, 2018.
