"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is set to introduce another established comic book character into live action. As announced Friday on Marvel.com, actor Dylan Minnette will play Donnie Gill -- the civilian identity of supervillain Blizzard -- in the show's Jan. 14 episode, "Seeds."

Usually portrayed as an Iron Man villain, the original incarnation of Blizzard was first introduced by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1963's "Tales of Suspense" #45. The Donnie Gill version of Blizzard, created during David Michelinie and Bob Layton's acclaimed "Iron Man" run, debuted in 1987, and spent time as a member of the Thunderbolts. The character was most recently seen in the miniseries "Infinity: Heist," which wrapped last month.

The TV take of Donnie Gill appears to diverge from the original in at least one significant way -- Minnette is 16 years old (turning 17 later this month), a definite contrast from the career criminal of the comics. Minnette played David Shephard on "Lost," and has also appeared in "Awake" and "Nikita."

In its first season, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has received criticism from fans and critics for not incorporating more Marvel mythology into the show. Previous comic book characters who have made their way into the program include Dr. Franklin Hall (Ian Hart), better known as supervillain Graviton; and Victoria Hand (Saffron Burrows). Earlier this month, show executive producer Jeffrey Bell told CBR News that upcoming episodes would be "a bit more in the Marvel direction."

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs at 8 p.m. Tuesdays on ABC, and returns from midseason hiatus on Jan. 7.
