An Agents of SHIELD-Netflix Crossover? Loeb Says ‘Stay Tuned’

With the release last week of “Luke Cage,” Marvel continues to build out the Netflix corner of its cinematic universe that began with “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.” And from appearances across the three series by Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple to references to Wilson Fisk and Frank Castle, Marvel has underscored it’s mantra that “It’s All Connected.”

But what about its other television series, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.D.”? Could Phil Coulson and company ever find themselves in Hell’s Kitchen?

Asked about the possibility of a crossover during Friday’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” panel at New York Comic Con, Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb replied, “Fair question. The answer is: Stay tuned.”  He reiterated that “It’s All Connected” in an interview with Screen Rant, but addressed the difficulties involved in ensuring those connections across TV networks and streaming service.

“The theater owners don’t get to say, ‘Well, we don’t want Spider-Man to be in Captain America’ — in that particular case Sony and Marvel had to work that out so that could happen,”Loeb said. “But in the case of what we do, we have networks to consider and that’s a conversation [for] ABC and Netflix.”

The Marvel TV universe will only expand further with the addition of FX’s X-Men-based “Legion,” Freeform’s “Cloak and Dagger” and Hulu’s “Runaways.” It’s not known whether those series will share continuity.

But it appears that there have at least been conversations, even if nothing it seems imminent. “So it just becomes a question of once it starts, what have we unleashed?” Loeb added. “But it’s certainly a topic of conversation.”

The fourth season of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The first two seasons of “Daredevil” and the first seasons of “Jessica Jones” and “Luke Cage” are available on Netflix, which earlier this week announced that “Iron Fist” would debut on March 17, 2017. “The Defenders is expected later next year.

FX’s “Legion” and Freeform’s “Cloak and Dagger” will premiere next year as well.
