Mercedes Mason ("666 Park Avenue") has joined the cast of AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" in an unnamed, series regular role, Deadline reports. The report also indicates that Ruben Blades is in talks to play her father.

"The Walking Dead" spinoff won't be the actress' first encounter with zombie-like creatures. Her past credits include "Quarantine 2: Terminal," where a mysterious virus breaks out in an airport terminal and the area is quarantined.

Set in Los Angeles prior to the massive zombie outbreak featured in "The Walking Dead," the spinoff series will star Cliff Curtis as divorced teacher Sean Cabrera and Kim Dickens as the female lead, a guidance counselor named Nancy. Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey are also attached to star as Dickens' children, Nick and Ashley. Elizabeth Rodriguez has also joined in an unnamed role.

Adam Davidson, who previously helmed episodes of "Friday Night Lights" and "Fringe," directed the pilot. The companion series will be executive produced by "The Walking Dead's" Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. "Fear the Walking Dead" has already received a two-season commitment from AMC; the first six episodes will debut this summer with a second season following in 2016.
