AMC is adding one more way to watch “The Walking Dead”: broadcast television. According to a recent press release, “The Walking Dead” will re-air old episodes on Fox’s MyNetworkTV beginning this fall. Two episodes will air on a designated weeknight on the station, which will be the exclusive broadcast home of the series.
“This agreement extends the reach of the number one show on television among adults 18-49 by giving viewers primetime access to ‘The Walking Dead’ with back-to-back episodes on broadcast television one night a week,” AMC president Charlie Collier said via press release. ‘The Walking Dead’ has grown in each of its first four seasons on AMC, and we look forward to exposing this compelling story and these unforgettable characters to new fans on MyNetworkTV.”
No further details were given, other than to expect back-to-back episodes of “The Walking Dead” on a to-be-determined weeknight on MyNetworkTV.
It’s a significant milestone for the critically acclaimed series, as only a handful of shows tend to make the jump from cable to broadcast — reruns of USA’s “Monk” and “Psych” both made the jump to NBC, and other examples are few and far in between. It’s also a big acquisition for FOX, whose MyNetworkTV reaches over 97% of the United States, raking #5 in households, #8 in the coveted 18-49 demo and #7 in viewers aged 25-54.
“It’s not often you get to add the hottest show on the planet to your lineup,” FOX’s Frank Cicha said in the release. “We just did, and it’s a tremendous get for our stations.”
Although, don’t expect the full-blown gore and violence in the original AMC airings. It’s been confirmed by Entertainment Weekly that episodes aired on MyNetworkTV will be edited to meet broadcast standards.

Among adults 18-49, ‘The Walking Dead’ is currently the number one series on television, across all cable and broadcast networks, and the number one cable drama series of all time.
