Diamond Comics has released its Top Ten charts for products released in December 2012. As expected, Marvel's "Amazing Spider-Man" #700 was the best-selling title for the month, and the issue's $7.99 price tag helped land in the number one position in Retail Dollars by a comfortable margin.
Overall, Marvel placed six titles in the Top Ten as its Marvel NOW! initiative continues to perform strongly for the publisher. DC Comics titles made up the remainder of the Top Ten, as Justice League and the Batman "Death of the Family" crossover remain popular with fans. For December, Marvel titles accounted for 33.40% of all dollars spent and 36.12% units moved in the Direct Market to DC's 29.62% and 34.84%, respectively.
"The Walking Dead" remained a force in graphic novel sales, with the first volume, "Days Gone Bye," not only charting but taking the number one slot for December. In fact, Image Comics' dominated the graphic novel charts, with collected editions of "Chew," "Saga" and "Fatale" joining Robert Kirkman's zombie-fueled juggernaut to lock down 7 out of 10 positions on the chart.
Diamond's comparative sales statistics showed sales for comics and graphic novels down slightly from November, though the year-to-year comparison with December 2011 shows increases across the board.
