The CW's soon-to-debut series "The Flash" has added another link to the original "The Flash" TV series: Amanda Pays will play Dr. Tina McGee, the same character she played in the CBS show that ran for one season from 1990 to 1991, as reported by sources including Variety.

Though the character name is the same, the situation is different: In the earlier "Flash" series, McGee was a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs. While S.T.A.R. Labs is very much a part of the new show, McGee will be an employee of a rival scientific firm.

Tina McGee was created by Mike Baron and Jackson "Butch" Guice, and first appeared in 1987's "The Flash" #3, during the early days of Wally West's stint as the hero. Pays is the second cast member of the 1990 "Flash" to be case in the CW series, following John Wesley Shipp -- who starred as Barry Allen in the original "Flash," and plays Barry's imprisoned father Henry in the current show.

"When we decided to bring Tina onto our version of 'The Flash,' who better to get than the amazing actress who originated the part?" "Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg is quoted by Variety. "Like with John Wesley Shipp, we are so proud and excited to have another actor from the original series join us on our new adventures for Barry Allen."

"The Flash" is set to premiere on The CW at 8 p.m. on Oct. 7.
