More concept art from “Batman v Superman” has been released by Robert McKinnon (“Inception”) on his krop.com page. They show the many options he gave the makers of Warner Bros.’ “Batman v Superman” to decide from when thinking about Wonder Woman’s sword and Aquaman’s iconic trident.
Hidden amongst the incredible concept art McKinnon has provided for films such as “TRON,” “Total Recall” and “Iron Man 3” are a few images of less-“modern” weaponry. Fans can take a long look at Aquaman’s magical trident they only got a brief glimpse of in “BvS” as well as some other pretty outrageous versions.
Wonder Woman’s “Sword of Athena” had many different designs before the final design was landed upon. McKinnon created designs ranging from an eastern ‘khukuri’ style with an inward curve to the more gladiatorial style akin to those of ancient Rome.
The makers of “BvS” eventually went with a more simple design for the film but Zack Snyder insisted on an eagle emblem on the sword as well as the ancient Greek inscription which, when translated, is a quote from Joseph Campbell’s “Goddess: Mystery Of The Feminine Divine.”
“Life is killing all the time and so the goddess kills herself in the sacrifice of her own animal.”
You can see more of McKinnon’s work in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” available now on DVD and Blu-ray
