Actress Eiza González has boared "Alita: Battle Angel," the James Cameron-produced live-action adaptation of Yukio Kushiro's celebrated cyberpunk manga Battle Angel Alita.

Director Robert Rodriguez didn't have to look too far to find González, as the two have worked together for the past three seasons of "Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" on the El Rey Network, the television channel launched in 2013 by the filmmaker.

Eiza González, whose credits also include "Jem and the Hologram" and Edgar Wright's upcoming "Baby Driver," joins a cast that already boasts Rosa Salazar, Keean Johnson, Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein and Christoph Waltz.

With an estimated budget of between $175 million and $200 million, the sci-fi film is based on the popular manga about a female cyborg (Salazar) discovered in a garbage heap by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life, except for her deadly martial-arts skills, she becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.

Cameron’s adaptation has been in development since at least 2000, but Rodriguez’s involvement wasn’t announced until last October. Laeta Kalogridis (“Shutter Island,” “Terminator Genysis”) wrote the script. Cameron will produce the film alongside his partner Jon Landau.

“Alita: Battle Angel,” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 20, 2018.
