Now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at Katherine Waterston's gun-toting character. This new character looks a lot different from Waterston's turn in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." In fact, she looks a lot like the franchise's previous hero, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver).

In the accompanying article, director Ridley Scott says that whereas the previous film, "Prometheus," left many scratching their heads, "Covenant" is going to set things straight. “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why,” said Scott.

Directed by Ridley Scott, “Alien: Covenant” will serve as a bridge between “Prometheus” and the “Alien” series.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

“Alien: Covenant” stars franchise newcomers Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollet and Katherine Waterston, as well as returning “Prometheus” cast members Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce. “Alien: Covenant” opens in theaters May 19, 2017.
