After emerging as the front-runner in the casting process two weeks ago, it has now been confirmed that Alden Ehrenreich will star as Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars" anthology film, which will follow a younger version of the character made famous by Harrison Ford. The movie will follow Solo's days before he joined the Rebel Alliance.

According to Deadline, Ehrenreich is "negotiating to seal the deal" for the part in the film. He was reportedly in competition for the part with Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor.

Ehrenreich is likely recognized by audiences for his appearance in the Coen Brothers' "Hail, Caesar!" The actor is set to appear next in Warren Beatty’s yet untitled "Howard Hughes project," and is currently filming a war drama called "The Yellow Birds," alongside Jennifer Aniston, Tye Sheridan and Toni Collette.

Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("The LEGO Movie"), and written by Lawrence ("The Empire Strikes Back") and Jon Kasdan, the "Han Solo" anthology film will be released May 25, 2018.
