Disney+'s upcoming Ahsoka series will indeed feature the live-action debuts of Star Wars Rebels' Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Ahsoka Tano herself, Rosario Dawson, shared an Instagram story of another user celebrating the casting of Mena Massoud as Ezra and Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn on her Instagram story, confirming earlier reports that the two have landed the Star Wars roles.

Created by Dave Filoni and George Lucas, Ahsoka Tano made her debut in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While she was initially criticized by critics and fans as an unnecessary addition to the Star Wars universe, over the course of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' seven-season run, she grew to become one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe. From Clone Wars, she transitioned to Star Wars Rebels before making her live-action debut in Season 2, Episode 13 of The Mandalorian, "The Jedi." That Episode saw Ahsoka inquiring about Thrawn's location, hinting that her spinoff series will focus on her hunt for the Empire officer.

Ezra and Thrawn may not be the only Star Wars characters to make their way from the animated side of the galaxy far, far away to live action. There are reports circulating that Captain Rex, who stood by Ahsoka's side throughout many of her adventures in The Clone Wars, and Barriss Offee, a former Jedi who bombed the order's temple, will appear in the series. There are also rumors that Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian warrior from Rebels, will make an appearance.

Ahsoka was announced in December 2020 during the Disney Investor Day presentation. It will take place in the same time period as The Mandalorian and was supposed to cross over with Rangers of the New Republic for a "climatic story event," according to Star Wars head Kathleen Kennedy. However, those plans are now in limbo with Rangers being shelved indefinitely.

Still, Lucasfilm, Disney and Disney+ have plenty of Star Wars material in the pipeline. On the live-action TV side, aside from Ahsoka and the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm is currently filming The Book of Boba Fett, the Rogue One prequel Andor and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The mysterious series The Acolyte and Lando are also in pre-production. Lucasfilm is also working on the animated series A Droid Story and has an anime anthology, Star Wars: Visions, scheduled to premiere this September.
