SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Broken Promises," the mid-season premiere of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

It's all connected! In "Broken Promises," the mid-season premiere of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", viewers learned more than ever about Senator Ellen Nadeer -- including her connection to the first "Avengers" film.

As her brother Vijay recovered from his seven-month Terrigenesis transformation, he had a dream in which he recalled visiting his mother for her birthday, which happened to be the same day as the Chitauri attack on New York City. The scene opens with a woman standing in her living room, only for an explosion to destroy everything in sight. Later, he tells his sister about his dream, and the two reminisce about that horrible day.

The event had an especially profound impact on Ellen. As it turns out, she believes the Inhuman outbreak is the next phase in the Chitauri's plan for invasion. She describes Inhumans as a plague and a scourge and reminds Vijay of the promise they made one another: if one of them got "infected," the other would kill them.

Now that he's Inhuman, Vijay wasn't particularly keen on holding Ellen to this. Nevertheless, Ellen recruited the Watchdogs to do the honor and dispose of him in the woods, but he managed to talk his way out of it by telling her that he didn't manifest any abilities. That turned out to be false, though, when the Watchdogs attempt to kill him later on; his ability appears to be enhanced reflexes, which he used to disarm the Watchdogs that ignored Ellen and went to kill him anyway on their leader's orders.

Despite Director Mace and Simmons' plea for him to go with them, Vijay ultimately beat a hasty retreat with Ellen. The two joined Ellen's head Watchdog in a helicopter, where Ellen did the deed herself and stabbed her brother through the chest with a knife. They dumped Vijay into a body of water and took off, while Ellen dared the Watchdog to never cross her again. She also revealed that she, too, works for someone higher up in the ranks of the Watchdogs.

However, that may not be the end for Vijay. As he tumbled to the water bed, a second Terrigenesis cocoon formed around him. Though it's hard to tell at this point, this will likely save his life -- and perhaps give him a new or secondary ability.
