[SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Season 1 of "Marvel's Agent Carter."]

The season finale of "Marvel's Agent Carter" is nearly here. The limited series will end its eight-episode run on ABC with the appropriately titled "Valediction." The stakes have been raised higher and higher throughout Season 1, and the penultimate episode left the Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.S.R.) in shambles. Dr. Ivchenko/Fennhoff (Ralph Brown) and Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan) started playing their deadly hand, and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and her S.S.R. Co-workers must track them and take back the dangerous Item 17.

Executive producers/writers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters spoke with CBR News ahead of tonight's season finale and offered some hints about what's ahead for Peggy and her S.S.R. colleagues. They discuss Ivchenko and Underwood's plan, the return of Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), Edwin Jarvis' (James D'Arcy) loyalties, Peggy's next steps and more.

CBR News: Teasers show Howard Stark is coming back into the picture. What can you tell us about his part in the finale?

Tara Butters: Howard comes back with information that can help Peggy and the S.S.R. He sort of helps them set in motion the plan to get Fennhoff and Dottie.

And speaking of them, we saw at the end of the last episode that Fennhoff and Dottie have some kind of plan but their endgame isn't clear. What you can tease about their ultimate goal?

Butters: That is something that unfolds within episode eight. Obviously the audience sees at the end of [episode] 107 that they have gas that makes people psychotic. As the S.S.R. learns about what item 17 does, it's a race against the clock to figure out what the endgame is for Fennhoff and Dottie and how can they stop it.

Michele Fazekas: I think it's not a coincidence that they're going after Howard Stark's invention [item 17].

Peggy has played a key role in helping the S.S.R. figure out what's going on. After everything that's happened, will we see their perspective toward her and the fact that she's a woman change?

Fazekas: I think after doing that [investigating Leviathan] and after Peggy finally comes clean in episode seven and basically tells them everything and shows them Captain America's blood, they're really under pressure to find Fennhoff because he has a bunch of canisters of poison gas. So there's no room and there's no time for their petty bullshit about "You can't do things because you're a girl." And also I think that will only continue in episode eight and evolve and develop. Even at the top of episode eight, there's no time for any of their arguments anymore. They are working as a team.

You know Jarvis never really doubted Peggy, but we've seen him come to respect her more and perhaps respect Howard less. He's no longer blindly loyal to Howard. Will we see his relationship with Howard change in the finale?

Fazekas: Well, that's an interesting journey that Jarvis is taking. Jarvis, I think you're exactly right in saying that Jarvis is all about loyalty. He's still a loyal person but perhaps the person he's loyal to isn't Howard anymore. Or isn't Howard exclusively. I would say there's a nice journey for Peggy and Jarvis that we see in episode eight.

Now with Peggy, it seems like things are building up to a showdown between her and Dottie. Will we see them go hand to hand?

Butters: I would say you will get a very satisfying confrontation between those two. And the nice thing is, Dottie's probably Peggy's most formidable opponent that she's ever come across in a way - just because of her fighting style and how she's trained to fight. I think you can be assured that Peggy is not going to let Dottie get the drop on her again.

We've already seen some ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in "Agent Carter," but will there be any big easter eggs in the finale?

Butters: Yes, you'll see a couple of them.

The season finale of "Marvel's Agent Carter" airs Tuesday, February 24 at 9:00pm ET/PT on ABC.
