Until recently, not much was known about the upcoming standalone Batman film from Warner Bros. and DC Films other than that, you know, it'd include Batman. A few weeks back, however, the new Bruce Wayne himself, Ben Affleck, posted a behind-the-scenes clip of at least one of the villains the Caped Crusader will face off against in the film -- Deathstroke.

While certainly a tough baddie to battle, Deathstroke isn't exactly an A-list member of Batman's Rogues Gallery. Defending his choice, Affleck opened up to Collider, justifying why Slade Wilson was a good fit for his first solo outing as the Dark Knight.

"I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well," Affleck explained. "You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work."

The writer and director of "The Batman" -- the film's current working title -- is most likely referencing DC Comics' choice to re-situate Mr. Wilson as a bit older in the New 52 universe -- which would match well with Ben Affleck's slightly-past-his-prime take on the Justice League member. Not long ago, it was confirmed that Joe Manganiello ("True Blood," "Magic Mike") would play the role of the legendary Terminator.

In the comics, Slade Wilson is a army vet and experimental test subject granted superhuman strength -- which makes him an ideal candidate for some of the more unsavory hit jobs in the DC Universe...a career path that Batman (likely) doesn't take kindly to.

While no definite date has been set for "The Batman," fans can see how the Dark Knight continues to fare in "Justice League" when it hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
