Adult Swim has greenlit a live-action comedy from The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder.

Called Black Jesus, the show finds Jesus living in present-day Compton, California, where he's on a mission to spread love throughout the neighborhood with the help of a small but loyal group of followers.

The series stars Gerald "Slink" Johnson (Grand Theft Auto V) as Black Jesus, with Charlie Murphy (Are We There Yet), Corey Holcomb (The Cleveland Show) and John Witherspoon (The Boondocks, The First Family). Production is already under way in Los Angeles.

The Boondocks, based on McGruder's comic strip of the same name, premiered on Adult Swim in November 2005, where it aired for three seasons before beginning a significant hiatus in 2010. The fourth season is scheduled to debut in April.
