Adam Wingard, known for "The Guest" and "You’re Next," is on board to direct an adaptation of the horror manga "Death Note" for Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Originally a Japanese manga, "Death Note" follows a high school student named Light Yagami. who discovers a book that kills anyone whose name is written in it. With this power, Yagami attempts to cleanse the world of evil. However, a detective called L catches on and hunts down Yagami to put an end to that.

Wingard replaces Shane Black, who was originally attached to direct.

Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka will produce the project, with Doug Davison and Brian Witten signed on to executive produce. Jeremy Slater penned the most recent version of the script.
