First revealed in October at New York Comic Con, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” a game based on the upcoming film hitting in Summer 2012, is a return to basics for Activision. Unlike the previously released “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions” and this year’s “Spider-Man: Edge of Time,” the new game won’t follow a linear path. Instead, as in the company’s previously released “Spider-Man 2,” you’ll be able to roam freely throughout New York City, completing side missions while continuing on with the main story.
Beenox, the developer who handled both “Edge of Time” and “Shattered Dimensions,” is working on “Amazing” as well, promising the kind of free-styling physics that Spidey has become known for, including swinging across buildings and using his Spider-Sense to detect incoming danger. His physical prowess will also prove useful in the heat of battle, as he’ll come across a number of thugs that need to be brought down.
More details regarding the game should be available soon, and we’ll have a preview that goes more in-depth with it. For now, though, you can check out the first pieces of concept art. You can see that Beenox is putting a lot of attention into the game, and is dedicated to preserving the movie’s style into it as well. Stay tuned.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” is set to hit shelves sometime next summer for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Other platforms could follow as well.
