Action Lab Comics' Princeless comic book series is set to get a big-screen adaptation courtesy of Sony Pictures. Deadline broke the news ahead of the Action Lab Comics panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Princeless centers on Adrienne Ashe, a young girl that never wanted to be a Princess, and seeks to take maters into her own hands after her parents lock her away in a tower on the night of her 16th birthday to be saved by a Prince. The series was created by Jeremy Whitley and M. Goodwin and has been nominated for two Eisner Awards; the series has won various awards including two Glyph Awards for Story of the Year and Best Writer.

The option on the series, which has been praised for both its diversity and tackling of sexism, comes after Wonder Woman has been dominating the box office since its release back in June.

Set to write the film for Sony Pictures is Stefani Robinson, whose credits include FX's Atlanta, Man Seeking Woman, and the previously announced FXX/Marvel animated Deadpool series. As of right now, no director is attached to the project.

It's unknown when Sony hopes to release the Princeless film.
