ABC Cancels Charlie’s Angels

ABC has canceled Charlie’s Angels, the heavily promoted remake of the 1970s television phenomenon from Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production has already been shut down on the series, which starred Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh as private eyes working in Miami for the mysterious Charlie. The remaining episodes will continue to air until the network decides what will take its place on the schedule.

The drama premiered Sept. 22 to 8.7 million viewers but sank to 5.9 million viewers by its third week. Last night’s episode saw ratings climb a tenth of a point, to 6 million viewers, but that wasn’t enough to save Charlie’s Angels from the ax.

Its cancellation quickly follows that of NBC’s The Playboy Club and Free Agents, CBS’s How to Be a Gentleman, and The CW’s H8R.
