Every installment of Abandoned Love we will be examining comic book stories, plots and ideas that were abandoned by a later writer while still acknowledging that the abandoned story DID still happen. This time around, we look at the recent "soft reboot" of the New 52 Batgirl...

So the New 52 Batgirl debtued in Batgirl #1 by Gail Simone, Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes, and she came with a fancy outfit...

The outfit was later noted to include Kevlar...

Batgirl also had a cool motorcycle...

as well as a sort of "Battle Van," a van tricked out with all of her gear...

The most important supporting character in Simone's run on Batgirl was Barbara's roommate, Alysia...

Simone's last issue involves Barbara deciding to move out, but interestingly enough, she decides to ask her good friend, Alysia, go with her...

That's where we leave Batgirl with Batgirl #34. #35, though, by the incoming team of Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletch, Babs Tarr and Maris Wicks, quickly goes to work on a "soft reboot" of Batgirl, by basically abandoning most of the trappings of the previous run.

Right off the bat, Barbara moves in with another friend, leaving Alysia behind...

A quick series of e-mails shows that Barbara's finances are not in good shape after a bad guy messed with her computer...

Next, Barbara's erstwhile friend, Black Canary, shows up to let Barbara know that her Dojo burned down, which included all of Barbara's gear...

So within just a few pages, Batgirl has a new roommate and a whole new operating budget, which leads to the new costume...

All things considered, this was quite the painless transition (less fiery than another New 52 "soft reboot" from last year).
