Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we look at Meredith Gran's Octopus Pie!

Octopus Pie is cartoonist Meredith Gran's nifty web comic that updates in a particularly interesting fashion.

It used to be that the comic would update three times a week. Now, though, Gran waits until she finishes a "storyline" and then posts the complete storyline.

The result is basically a collection of complete short stories featuring her main characters. It's a clever way to deliver the content of the strip, and it allows Gran more time to complete the strips without having to worry about a "three times a week" deadline.

Her website for the comic (which you can find here or by just typing in www.octopuspie.com into your browser) splits the comics up into storylines - it's very accessible reading.

That stuff, though, is all technicalities that would be worthless if it were not for the fact that the strip itself is quite good.

The comic stars Eve, who works at an organic food store (with some wacky folks) and lives with a roommate, Hanna, in Brooklyn, New York. As you might imagine, hilarity often ensues.

The strip's art style is evocative of Bryan Lee O'Malley, and the comic has a lot of the same over the top comedic stylings of O'Malley, along with O'Malley's knack for developing outlandish but interesting characters whose character interactions provide the solid foundation that the wacky aspects of the strip rely on.

Most storylines are fairly long (the latest one is a fun look at what happens when Eve and Hanna visit Hanna's folks for Christmas - there is a brilliant bit where Hanna devotes herself to a shlocky piece of 60s pop music that she enjoys ironically until she learns more about the musicians), but here is a short (four part) one...

Octopus Pie is a very enjoyable comic strip.
