Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here‘s the archive of the comics posted so far!
Today we look at the Death Jr. Halloween Ashcan from Image Comics in 2005, written by Joe Morrisey and drawn by Guy Davis!
Death Jr. is a video game that has had a much better life as a comic book character, mostly through the work of writer Gary Whitta and artist Ted Naifeh.
This short ashcan, though, is by a different creative team. However, when you have Guy Davis on your creative team, you automatically win.
This comic shows DJ (Death, Jr., son of the Grim Reaper, natch) and his lovable (if spooky) friends going trick or treating.
Here they are at Mother Nature’s house, with her lame daughter…
And here they are dealing with some local high schoolers…
The ending to the issue is a real pip – well worth picking up. Heck, just look at the Guy Davis artwork!!! Why wouldn’t you want this comic book? It can’t be very expensive! It’s on eBay for, like, 5 bucks.
