Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we take a look at Brian Talbot's great Tale of One Bad Rat...

Enjoy!

You know, Talbot's work is so strong on this book I don't think I even need to show you anything but the first two issues (the comic is split into three chapters over four issues - which is kind of weird, now that you think about it) and you will want the comic if you have not read it yet.

First, check out the stunning opening...

This introduces us to Helen, the homeless girl with an awful past who found the strength to carry on based on the works of Beatrix Potter and also her pet rat...

Flashbacks mix throughout the book...

Even when it seems she has met some okay people when she begins to stay with some squatters, but her past follows her there...

and when the squatters' cat kills her rat, well, she takes off...

she begins traveling and that's where we learn that her rat is still with her, but in a slightly different fashion...

This is an excellent work by Talbot filled with wonderful artwork and a powerful plot with a quirky way of delivering said plot. The collected work is especially good (because of the whole "chapters not equaling number of issues" thing).
