Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we continue a multi-part look at the various notable recurring features in Strange Adventures over the years - today we spotlight the Immortal Man!

Enjoy!

The Immortal Man appeared in four issues of Strange Adventures, spread out over about 20 or so issues. They were all drawn by the great Jack Sparling, although I don't know who wrote them all (Dave Wood wrote at least two of them).

The first appearance in #177 opens with a gorgeous full-page splash by Sparling...

The whole origin story is well told...

The issue ends in a unique fashion as the hero DIES!

Of course, though, he returns eight issues later...

Again, though, he meets his "end"...

The woman he met in this story becomes very important when he next shows up five issues later...

She finally figures it out...

This sets up a very interesting dynamic as she devotes her life to finding her lost love...

Once she's figured it out...

But, of course, true love is not easy when you're dealing with a guy whose power involves being able to come back from death...

Sadly, it would be two decades later before the Immortal Man would surface again.

It's a shame as the story dynamic is a good one - a woman looking for her lost love who would show up in a new body every time he dies? That could definitely drive a series.

And, of course, Sparling's art was great as always.
