Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Here's the third of five cool moments from Mark Waid and Ron Garney's Captain America run!

Enjoy!

In Captain America #445, Captain America is cured by the Red Skull, who needs him to help fight against the foe that Cap was practically built to fight - Adolf Hitler, himself, who years ago was trapped in the Cosmic Cube by the Skull. Now, some neo-nazis have been working to free Hitler from the Cube, and the Skull is rightfully frightened that Hitler holds a grudge, so the Skull uses Cap to stop him (The Skull has enlisted the help of Sharon Carter, who Cap thought was dead for years, but has been working as a freelance operative ever since her faked death).

Eventually, the Skull's real plan is revealed, he tricks Cap into the Cosmic Cube and distorts reality so that Cap thinks it is World War II again. Once Cap defeats Hitler, the Skull will gain control over the Cube (and, in effect, reality itself).

This is what happens throughout most of Captain America #448 (which allows Garney to draw a lot of neat World War II stuff, including an amazing Invaders).

Cap is just about to enter the bunker and destroy Hitler. Cap's sub conscious, though, in the form of Bucky, convinces him this is all a lie and that he cannot break through that bunker door. Cap understands and, as you would expect, he is quite upset over all this (the Skull even recreated Cap's mother just to be nice to Cap to spur Cap on in his quest to defeat Hitler)...

Cap holding the shield to the Skull's throat is one of the most bad-ass Cap shots ever.

If I was not pressed for space, I would count the scene later in the issue where Cap cuts the Skull's arm off, but alas, alack, Alaska.
